What title do you prefer for a rock magazine

What is the main thing you read a magazine for?

How much money are you willing to spend on a magazine?

How often would you buy a magazine?

What colour scheme do you prefer?

What genre of music do you prefer?

What age bracket are you in?

Are you Male or Female?

The purpose of a contents page is to give the reader a bit of information about what is in the magazine and where to find it. This is my first analysis of a contents page. The red Q at the top left of the page is in red to stand out and remind you what magazine you are reading. The text is mainly black and white and is presented neatly. The writing is presented smartly like the main image, the image is set in a country side on top of a hill which contrasts to the other magazines i have done as they are more rock and people acting more lively. This suggests that the magazine is not for the younger audience but for more older for example 18-24 year olds. It has a web link at the top right to show it has a website and it encourages people to have a look. It has the the numbers in red to stand out so people find it easier to navigate themselves throughout the magazine.  At the bottom left of the screen it says "oasis special" this attracts the consumer as they want to know what is about especially if they are fans. It also says "Q REVIEW, The worlds biggest and best music guide." When the consumer sees this they will believe it is is better then the rest of the music magazines. It also says "Every Month" This show it has been out for a long time and it has popular things that are in the magazine every month for example subscriptions and crosswords.

This is my third and final analysis of a double page spread.

Colour

The main three colours used in this double page spread are black white and a little red. the red is used to make things stand out more then any other thing on the page. it says "LILY ALLEN" in red to show she is a well known celebrity and when the consumer sees her name they want to know more about her. The heading looks as if it has been cut out of a paper and stuck on, it also looks as if it is coming out of the page.

Picture

The main picture of lily Allen takes up the whole right hand side of the page which leaves all the writing at the left hand side. At the start of the article it has a drop capital and the writing is presented in four neat columns this makes it look tidy. The shirt lily Allen is wearing is stereotypical of a trendy girl, this shows the magazine is aimed at teenagers and the consumer will relate to what she is wearing. Her pose shows she is giving a more attitude side of her which also relates to teenagers. She is looking directly to the camera giving the impression she wants to be looked at and shows that she is a strong character. All these characteristics fit in with her personality.

Layout

The the picture and writing fits in very well. There is page numbers at the bottom of the page and the name of the magazine so the consumer remembers this magazine and is drawn to buy the next edition. The colours mix very well. Lily Allens name is in a black box at the top to tell the reader who they are reading about in the article.

Here is my second double page spread analysis it is talking about a band called American Gothic.

Colour

The double page spread is black and white to create the old gothic feel. The writing is down the left hand side and is white to blend in with the black background so it can be easily read by the consumer. In the title "American Gothic" the word gothic is brown it blends in with the white and black but i think it doesn't blend with the other two colours. the picture of the man is white which makes it blend in with the church. The gothic feel throughout this double page spread clearly tells us what magazine we are buying which is clearly in the rock genre.

Design

The double page spread has been set out in this way to give a Gothic effect. This has been done by using numerous amounts of key factors for example font, colour, pictures, ect. The colour is black and white and this alone gives a gothic impression.

Picture

The picture takes up nearly the whole double page spread, unlike most other magazines which normally take up around half. The picture is black and white indicating it is a dark/gothic. And there is also a church which shows this is a gothic magazine.

Overall I would say that the whole black and white layout portrays the type of music the magazine is about realy well.

F
or my first double page spread, i am going to analyze this two page spread which is from a magazine called NME which is a famous magazine that focuses on the rock genre. NME is a famous magazine which has been out for many years. On the double page spread it has a headline (title) "The Teenagers" which are a music group from America. It has four pictures and a main picture. It has a fact box at the bottom left corner of the double page spread. The colour scheme doesn't really work with the main background image as it uses mainly dark colours and the scheme of the rest of the double page spread uses light. I feel that the magazine colours should be similar throughout.  The colours thwy use are light blue white, and a little bit of red. These colours are not stereotypical of a rock magazine.

Design

All the important headlines and important information are highlighted in blue this attracts the reader and gives a little information which makes the readre want to read more.

Images

The main image represents average teenagers in their room being lazy. The room is also a representation of an teenagers room(very messy, couch to lay on and relax.) Its a typical teenagers room. There are other images on the double page spread showing other bands and giving information on them.

Words Used!

In the middle of the magazine it says "NME" loves in a star shaped background this makes it stand out of the page. it also says "THE TEENAGERS" in very bold and big writing it does this so we remember these people also it has a light blue background to make it stand out from the rest of the magazine.

My overall impression of the magaine is that the colours used do not really contrast well. The main image will atract teenagers to buy this magazine because they can relate to the main picture. The double page spread gives a good insight to other bands and gives good information on their likes and dislikes and their lifestyle.
